Book an appointment to register a death
A death that takes place in Scotland can be registered at any registration office in Scotland. By law, a death must be registered within 8 days. We cannot register a death which did not take place in Scotland, the death must be registered in the country where it occurred.
When you submit this form, we will send you an appointment confirmation email with information about the registration process and the documents you will need to bring with you. You will need to provide your email address when asked to receive this email.
To register a death you must have a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (Form 11), sometimes known as MCCD, that is signed by a doctor.
