Provisionally book an appointment to register a birth
We cannot register births that did not take place in Scotland. The baby must be registered in the country where the birth occurred.
For the purpose of this form 'mother' refers to the person who gave birth to the baby.
Who should attend
If the parents are married to each other or in a registered civil partnership, only one parent can to attend to register the birth, as a precaution relating to COVID-19.
If the parents are not married to each other or in a registered civil partnership, both must attend if they want both their names to appear in the register. The mother can attend on her own but the father or other parent's name would not appear in the register. The father or other parent cannot attend on their own.
If you want both parents’ names to appear in the register but you cannot attend together, let us know when we call to confirm your booking.
